Denise Lewis, OBE, the Gold Olympic Athlete and TV presenter who lives in Buckinghamshire, officially opened the new Helen & Douglas House shop and warehouse on Broadfields Retail Park, Aylesbury, on Saturday, 19 October.
The lovely Denise brought her family along to the opening and chatted to and signed autographs for customers, staff, volunteers and some local families who use the hospice services.
Hobbeycraft Aylesbury kindly came along and did face painting and craft sessions. There was also a Teddy Bear competition, with people paying for or winning a Helen & Douglas House Teddy, being asked to photograph their Teddy at home, or in unusual and interesting places for Facebook. It was a great day!
The new shop sells bric-a brac and donated furniture - including restored and up-cycled items - and will have a book section and a specialist media section, selling vinyl records, CDs, DVDs and listening books. There is a seasonal section selling new Christmas cards and gifts. Donations of unwanted good quality items are very welcome. Items of furniture can be collected by phoning 01235 530857(temporary number).
Jobs are currently being advertised and there are plenty of volunteer opportunities, including warehouse, office, ecommerce and retail, available.
