Helen & Douglas House

Helen & Douglas House is thrilled to announce a new charity partnership with the Honda Racing F1 Team!

Following a successful partnership with Honda UK over recent years, the Honda Racing F1 Team will be adding their support to Helen & Douglas House to help raise the necessary funds to ensure the future provision of the charity's voluntary services.

Nick Fry, Chief Executive Officer of the Honda Racing F1 Team, says, "The Honda Racing F1 Team is very proud to begin its association with Helen & Douglas House this year. Supporting a locally based charity is very important to the team and we hope our involvement will help raise awareness of the valuable work undertaken by Helen & Douglas House.

"Our staff will be fully involved in the many projects and events planned over the next few months and we all look forward to contributing to the continued success of Helen & Douglas House in bringing hope and respite to children and families in need."

Sister Frances says, "We are very grateful that the Honda Racing F1 Team has chosen us as their official charity partner, and not just from a fundraising point of view.

"By associating Helen & Douglas House with the thrill of Formula One, it will help to break down the misconception that hospices for children and young people must be sad and depressing places, when actually they are vibrant and positive, and the emphasis is on living life to the full even when that life is short."

A Hike for Helen & Douglas House (by Iain Bomphray)

A wet and foreboding trek up the M6 on Friday was rewarded with clearing skies, a warm reception at the Hostel and a sticky toffee pudding youd trade a relative for. A hike to the 'local' made some room for a night cap (always careful to hydrate) and uncovered a fantastic, unpolluted view of the night sky with shooting stars and the Milky Way in plain view.

With a full compliment of ten in the morning we set off from the Hostel and immediately started to climb, ascending 600m to Harrison Stickle and Stickle Tarn for lunch. The sun soon burned through the low cloud and exposed fantastic views over to Lake Windermere on the South and Bow Fell on the North West. The day turned into a calm and balmy summer's afternoon on the descent to Grasmere and a well earned stop after twelve miles and nine hours out on the hills.

On Sunday the weather turned and we decided to abandon our plans for another walk and we returned to Ambleside to restock with carbohydrates.

A special mention should go to Dave and Leanne and Anthony and Jeannine for packing a lot into 24hrs; both couples made the effort to come for one day! One final point worth making is that David Green returned with a tan, which is not bad for a ghost.

Many thanks to Honda Racing F1 Team for their support and to all who took part; a fantastic £400 was raised for Helen & Douglas House, which will be matched by the team. We hope to repeat the event in the spring for all those who didn't make it this time.
