Helen & Douglas House

We receive a grant from the Big Lottery Fund to support us in some of our project work across the charity.

With this grant we have been able to employ a further 11 part-time members of staff and run the following services:

- 24 hour medical access to a local doctor and palliative care nurse, as well as 24 hour emergency admissions;

- a community nurse to liaise with the local authorities and other community nurses, offering a home service if required;

- a school teacher, an aromatherapist and music therapist for the children and siblings who use Helen House;

- a minorities worker to encourage parents in the local community to use the Hospice;

- a transitional worker to liaise with the teenagers who use Helen House and are in the process of moving across to Douglas House when they reach 18.

We are also now able to offer our Little Room service to children and families who have not used Helen House before, giving them continued support as long as they require.

All the projects are now in their second year and have enhanced all areas of the charity's work, increasing the occupancy of the Hospice by ten percent.
